The beams help to achieve the Tower’s distinctive design, whereby it gives the impression of it twisting as it rises due to the elliptical ring of balconies, which are offset by 2.5 degrees on each level, creating a gentle spiral.
Cordek devised a system of fibreglass formers and a layout for the individual formers, which was optimised for striking and handling. This design solution has not only enabled O’Shea to meet a very tight programme, but also provided the quality of finish needed to realise the architect’s vision.
The bulding, a 45 storey luxury development in Canary Wharf, is due for completion in June 2016. To find out more about Cordek’s quick formwork fix, please read our article in the CONSTRUCT Yearbook.
