Sustainability

Cordek recognises the importance of doing business in a manner that minimises negative environmental impact, whilst encouraging a positive contribution to the community and society as a whole. We are committed to implementing our ESG Policy, which formalises Cordek’s responsible business practices and long-term thinking in this area. Our ESG policy considers the successful integration and balance of economic growth, environmental care, and social wellbeing.

Here are some examples of what we have done so far…

To reduce environmental impact

  • Demolished old inefficient factories and built new energy efficient factories including SUDS
  • Upgraded the external cladding on our Bespoke Products factory. The thermal insulation has been increased for the walls to achieve 0.26 W/m²K and roof 0.16 W/m²K. This means that all of Cordek’s buildings now achieve an EPC rating of between A – C, reducing our overall environmental impact, whilst also improving the working environment for our employees.
  • Invested in a state-of-the-art recycling facility to enable the offering of a recycling service for Cordek expanded polystyrene (eps) products, post use. This service is offered to Cordek customers for products at the end of their useful life and for site waste (off-cuts etc)
  • Additional EPS compactors to recycle 100% of eps production waste
  • Recycling of up to 97% of all non-eps production waste
  • Signed up to Operation Clean Sweep, an international initiative from the plastics industry to reduce plastic pellet loss, flakes, or powders to the environment
  • Committed to becoming Net Zero in advance of the government’s deadline
  • ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 attained and maintained
  • Water filtration to increase the use of recycled water
  • Introduction of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s)
  • Debris capture systems to ensure foreign matter does not enter either local drainage systems or watercourses
  • Travel plan including new bike shelter and shower facilities to encourage employees to explore other, more environmentally friendly, options of travel
  • Site landscaping including the planting of hedgerows, fixing bird and bat boxes to mature trees and the formation of a hibernacula
  • Entire fleet of energy efficient lorries, all Euro 6 compliant, and utilise AdBlue to reduce emissions
  • New routing software to ensure most efficient delivery routes
  • Driver training specifically related to idling and monitoring of fuel consumption

For employee wellbeing and development

  • Ongoing programme of staff training and development
  • Introduction of flexible working hours
  • Birthdays given as an extra day’s holiday
  • Employee Assistance Programme providing a 24-hour helpline
  • Health and wellbeing training for Managers
