SUD training for all lorry drivers

The SUD course is a requirement by FORS for Silver accreditation. All drivers must complete the course to be FORS compliant and it’s valid for 5 years. SUD is an abbreviation for Safe Urban Driving. The course looks at the different vulnerable road users and how drivers can mitigate the risk of having an accident with them. It is mostly designed for urban areas where the volume of cyclists and pedestrians are higher but also covers horse riders, which are seen more in rural areas. Accident statistics involving HGVs and vulnerable road users were studied and part of the course involved drivers being on a bicycle to show how it feels to be a vulnerable road user.
